Thus ends the vacation photo-journal. Thanks for remembering with me. ALOHA!

7 Sacred Pools...Hana
The other 4 pools are on the other side of the road. People come here just to swim in these pools. Beautiful!
Black and White...Road to Hana
It's Friday, and our next to the last day...Where has the time gone? Today we took a tour to the little town of Hana. The Road to Hana has 617 turns, is 52 miles long and can take up to 4 hours...much of it 1 lane roads. So, you can see why we left the driving to someone else. Wow, this is Hawaii at its finest! So much of it untouched and unspoiled. The pictures do not do it justice. It took us all day...from 6:30 until 5:00. We saw alot, and stopped alot, and boy are we tired. And we still have to pack. Now, THAT strikes fear in my heart! Looks as if I've either got to ship stuff home...or buy another suitcase. After, the tour, we went to eat at a little local place, then on to purchase another bag. O.K....I bought too much while I was here. I checked 1 suitcase on the way here and carried on another one. I am going to have to check both going back and carry a small one. Well.......Shirley had to do it, too. Tina and Shirley got all their stuff packed and ready, but ...I give up. Not tonight. Gotta go to bed. I'll pack in the morning.:( :( :( I want to stay another week.
ON THE PLANTATION
After sleeping in a little later this morning, we headed out for a visit to the Maui Tropical Plantation. Here they grow all sorts of native fruits and vegetables and flowers, etc. What a treat! They have a tram that takes you through the gardens and fields and explain all about what is growing. We are standing in front of a bouganvillea hedge...it's about 7 feet tall...gorgeous... I meant the hedge, but if you want to include us...o.k. :) Shirley even got to commune with her favorite plant in the universe....coffee! We had lunch at their restaurant. Fresh fruit and an incredible view!
We had to hurry back and get ready for our big night. We had been unable to get tickets to the luau of choice, so The Feast At Lele came highly recommended. We put on our new Hawaiian attire and were greeted with a beautiful orchid lei as we arrived. We were shown to our table and the festivities began. We were treated to food, dance and song from 4 different Polynesian islands: Hawaii, New Zealand, Samoa, and Tahiti. This was truly a feast...it lasted over 4 hours...but soooo relaxing...and sooooo much food. Beautiful dancers...male and female..inspiring scenery, and good friends. Priceless! Sweet dreams! BTW: How do they get their hips to do that?

READY TO FLY
Early Wednesday morning, Tina and I made our way back to the airport for a helicopter tour of the whole island. What a thrill. This was my first helicopter ride. The tour lasted an hour and it was a blast. Oh, the beauty of the island when it is seen from the air. The pilot took us into the canyons and in between the mountain peaks. It is awe inspiring when you see the majesty of God up close like that. Oh the mind that created such wonders. The neatest thing is that there was a camera inside the helicopter and they videoed our trip...with us in it. It just came in the mail yesterday.
Shirley decided to soak up more of the Maui rays, so when we finished the ride, we went back to get her. We were all ready for a little shopping. So we went, and we shopped...and shopped...and rested...and shopped .We all bought a watch and a Hawaii charm bracelet at the Brighton store, and some things for the folks back home, too.
All this flying, and sunning, and shopping, makes a girl hungry, so we made reservations at a wonderful place called David Paul's. He is rated best chef on the island. And, in this humble little southern girl's opinion...it's the truth. Shirl and I had OPAKAPAKA (fish) and giant prawns (shrimp), cooked in a mango sauce. And the desserts!! OH, MY! I had a dark chocolate mouse in raspberry sauce covered in spun sugar, Shirl had a lime tart and Tina, a creme brulee.
We had to do a little walking after that...we were stuffed! The best meal yet. And, so ends Wednesday....FAT and SASSY!

I LIVE
I made it, friends. But, it was rough, let me tell you. However, when they got that gas a pumpin'...I was feelin' fine. Shame they have to turn that stuff off. :) My dentist was a sweetheart as she always is and she did not hurt me at all. Bad news....I have to have a ROOT CANAL! And it is not scheduled untilAugust...that means a whole month to worry. She cannot do it and is sending me to another doctor...then back to her for the crown. There is a temporary crown on it now. This is just way too much stress for a body to take when it's summer vacation time.
Anyway...THANKS for all the support! I know some of you bumped me up on the prayer list...I could tell. You're the best. Jean, you can relax...I didn't cross over....but that gas had me flying pretty high.:)

ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT!
I interrupt these vacation memories and rockin' blogger business for this important announcement. Tomorrow is D-DAY! :( :( :( That's right. Dentist Day. My tooth did just fine while I was gone , so I am so tempted to just let it be.....but, Mature Woman that I am, I know that is not the way to handle this. So, at 8:00 tomorrow, I face my fears and open my mouth, and hopefully get it all fixed. So, if there is room on your prayer list...bump me up to number 1....please. If I make it out alive and with some skin left on my palms from clenching my fists, I'll let you hear from me . But if not...you'll know I've crossed over to that big dentist chair in the sky....done in by the devil drill.
I ROCK!!!!
Thanks, Kat,Just a Beach Kat for the 'rockin endorsement'! I want to rock, I plan to rock, I try to rock, and according to you...I do! WOW! I'm feeling pretty good about myself right now. :)
So, now I get to choose 5 other rockin bloggers.
First, Leah, at Staying In Touch, a fun girl who lives in the deep south like me. She has 2 cute kids and I enjoy reading her blogs about she and her family.
Second, A Walk In My Shoes is one of my favorite reads. She has thoughtful insights into life. I love her pictures and poetry, also. A beautiful blog.
Third, Jean, at What's Up At The Stauffers . I just adore her. This is one busy lady. She has family everywhere. And she is a music teacher like me. Bet she even likes ROCKIN' music! :)
Next is my friend, Dianne, at Glasses of Grace. She has such a sweet relationship with her neices and blogs about that often. She has to just be brimming over with love. I enjoy reading about their adventures together.
And,I love to read Ornamental. She is such an artistic soul, and sees beauty in a myriad of things. I always feel the artsy side of my self being fed when I read her blog.
And again, thanks, Kat, you are one ROCKIN' BEACH BABE! Glad we've become friends!
Lovely Ladies in Leis in Lahaina
Tuesday in Lahaina. Today we spent exploring the town of Lahaina. This was once the capital of Hawaii, and is where the first missionaries came to. It was a seaport for the whalers, and quite a rowdy town at one time. Now it is filled with shops, and galleries, and the Ka'anapali resort area is nearby, so it is usually full of tourists. Also the new resort area of Wailea is close by, too. As we were walking the town. I spied a group of ladies making and selling leis in front of one of the museums. I bought us all one. Shirley and Tina had not recieved one yet and that was just not acceptable. I showed them the Banyan tree that is so big it covers 2/3 of an acre, it is a landmark here. We went for lunch at Kimo's and sat out on a deck over the ocean. The meal was insignificant...but the desert..OH MY! This is a famous dessert here in Maui. So big, we 3 shared it. It was chocolate heaven. Tonight we went to the theater to see a play called "Ulalena". It is the telling of how Maui was formed from the ocean. It was a mix of myth and truth. Very cirque de soleil like. I saw it last time Don and I were here and I could hardly wait to see it again and for the girls to see it. They were blown away! It was better the second time for me, and they say it was one of the highlights of the trip for them. I'm so glad they liked it . We walked around in a few of the shops for a little while before we went back to the motel. I bought a cute patchwork throw in BRIGHT colors that I plan to use as a wall hanging......however I used it to cover up with on the plane ride home, too. What a fabulous Day!
Whale and Heart Coral
When I asked Adam what he wanted me to bring him, he said , "just a neat rock." Doesn't this look like a whale to you? I thought so. And amoung the many things I collect are heart shaped rocks...now all these didn't come home with me , but a few did. Neat, huh?
On The Beach
We chose to end this day with a trip to Mama's Fish House, one of the most famous restaurants on the island. As you can see in the the previous pics, the grounds are beautiful, there was even a wedding going on while we were eating. Tina and Shirley had the house special Mahimahi in macadamia nut sauce and I had another fish, ono, and kaluha pig with grilled island fruits and vegetables. It was scrumptious. Tina had a pudding for desert and Shirl and I had a chocolate pie dark chocolate mousse over a layer of thick caramel on a ground chocolate cookie crust...to die for. Then we went out onto the beach and played. I looked for shells and coral, and we watched the sun going down. After about an hour and a half trip back to our motel, we were all ready to turn in from a very satisfying day.

Enjoying Art Gallery in Paia
Continuing along our road for the day, we came upon the town of Paia (Pie-e-ah).This is where all the hippies used to hang out...and stayed. So funny to see these 70 and 80 year old hippies, but they still call this home. Town is just a couple of streets, but some very high end shops mixed in...several art galleries, too. Willie Nelson has a bar and grill here and that's where we had lunch one day. This shop was full of beautiful assorted work by many artisans. I bought a lovely purse here.
Day 3 IAO Needle State Park
Up early this morning, have a good breakfast, then get in the car and head out. Much to see today. First stop...drug store..I'm having some knee issues and need a brace. Go it and off we go. On to the Iao Needle State Park.. This is where a very famous battle took place as King Kahmehameha was trying to unite all the islands. It is a most beautiful rock formation in a lovely valley. They walked to the top, but I decided not to stress my knee, so I made phone calls home. After their return we toured the museum home of one of the first missionaries on the islands. How interesting. This is the actual house they lived in. Hawaiian history has always been fascinating to me, so I really gleaned alot from this stop.
Day 2 in Maui
Returning to our room last night, we saw a sign that there was to be a church service at 8:00 on Sunday. We made plans to attend. What a blessing! And what a wonderful way to start our vacation. The hotel had requested that this ministry conduct a service on Sundays for its guests. It was held in this thatched roof, open air building. We shared where we were from, and there were people from all over the world. One connection...we all loved the Lord and desired to worship Him...even on vacation! The leader, Rev. Bev Powers, a former actress, was in charge. The man helping her was with the Billy Graham crusades for 40 years. We had a praise and worship singing time and then a lesson from the Bible. There was even a lovely Hawaiian lady doing hula to He Touched Me...awesome. We thanked God for allowing us to be in this wonderful place and for the beauty and majesty of His creation. He is so good!
As we were driving in yesterday, we saw a sign that said CRAFT SHOW SUNDAY. Now that is just right up our alley. We three go to craft shows all over the south...so we decided to see what a craft show in Maui would be like. Ate a quick breakfast, then called for our chariot. What fun to drive. Wind in our hair, sun on our faces, and joy in our hearts. The craft show was great. All island made items. Loads of great stuff. We bought jewelry, pictures, lotions, quilts, pareos, more jewelry, and just a little more jewelry. I even got a fake tattoo on my ankle. Fun! We then drove into Lahaina and got a smoothie and bought some postcards. Back to the hotel. I was feeling quite tired, so I decided to hit the bed early and Shirley and Tina went out to dinner, and walked along the beach. I just had sweet dreams of days to come.
Let's go to Maui!
Here we are in the airport...ready to take off on the trip of a lifetime!. Board the plane and....wait....wait....wait. This is not starting well at all. As it was, we only had 35 minutes to change plane in Atlanta, and we are already 30 minutes late leaving here. Something tells me this is not going to be as smooth as I hoped. Oh well, at least it will be an adventure.
I was right. We missed the connecting flight to Las Vegas, but they were able to get us out on the next one that leaves in 30 minutes....oops, they are boarding now...food and bathroom will have to wait. On board...off we go. Originally we had an hour and a half to change planes in Las Vegas...now 30 minutes. Arrive and walk, and walk, and walk, and ride, and ride , and walk and make it to the gate as the very last folks are boarding the plane....food and bathroom will have to wait....AGAIN. But, who cares? We're on our flight to MAUI. Thank goodness they had a meal you could buy on the plane, so we didn't starve to death. And as much as I hate to, I did make use of those tin can restrooms on the planes. Sometimes there is just nothing else you can do. We're landing! We're here! I have told my friends that the first thing they smell will be the plumeria blossomed air......and once we get outside...they do. Oh, it is delicious. On to Hertz to pick up car. A red mustang convertible, no less. Only 1 problem....we have 6 pieces of luggage...and it was made to hold 2. We stack and move and stack again...with the 3 of us ending up in the front seat. "Sorry, Mam, we can't allow you to leave the lot like that. You all have to be in a seat belt". All righty, then. Pull over and restack, and finally there is room for us all to be safe. Go through again and all is well. Ka'anapali Beach, here we come. Shirley and Tina are so excited when they see the ocean , and even more so when we get to the resort area. Check in, and unload....a little unpacking...and a happy dance! "WE'RE HERE!!!!"
Just a note here....I took 8 pairs of shoes...4 of them flip-flops....Shirley took 16 pairs!!!!!!! Not sure how many Tina took, but when we left, we had 43 pairs of shoes !!!!
Made a reservation for dinner. Showered and changed. The neat thing about the Ka'anapali resort area if there is a walkway next to the beach that connects all the hotels and a shopping village with restaurants. So that's where we ate. A wonderful place called The Hula Grill. Open air , Hawaiian music, perfect view to the beach. Shirley and I had macadamia nut crusted mahimahi and Tina had ribs. Delicious! Then a short walk through the shopping area, and home to bed. Day 1...started early...exasperating along the way...but ending in Paradise.

TONJA AND POP
Today, I went with Pop to the doctor . He did not need me to go, but I wanted to hear what they were saying about his heart. There has been some talk about a pacemaker and I just wanted to hear for myself. All is well. There still may have to be one but for now, they are going to work on medications, and such.
He told me a funny story that I wanted to pass along to you. When he was making one of his trips... on his motorcycle...to Alaska this time, his front tooth came out. It was a poceleine veneer and it just fell out and left the bar thing sticking out. He said the only thing he could do was use super glue to hold it in. The first time he did it, he held the tooth in place while the glue dried and when he removed his finger...the tooth came with the finger! So, he had to cut a chunk of finger off to get the tooth, then scrape finger off the tooth, then glue it in again! Can you imagine? There were no dentists where they were riding, so he did this daily for several weeks. So, you can see where some of my craziness comes from? I get it honestly!
"Thanks, Pop, for giving me a life full of adventure and new experiences. Thanks for setting the example, that with God's help...NOTHING is impossible. Thanks for showing me the joy of trying new things...and whether they are a big success or not...the fun comes in the trying! Thanks for pointing the way to enjoying ALL of God's beautiful world by being right smack in the middle of it."
Pop has been reading my blog and he told me today that he was so pleased that I credited the Lord with all that He has done for me.
"Well, Pop, that's another lesson I first learned from you. You are the one who never fails to thank the Lord FIRST for all things. Children learn by example. Thanks for being one that I and my boys can be proud of. I love you . Happy Father's Day!
(Sorry, Pop, I know this is an early wish, but I will be doing the hula in Maui on Father's Day, or maybe flying in a copter seeing the island, ...or...who knows what. And I know you don't want me to miss a thing!:)

RELIEF...SORTA
Friends...I did it! I walked into the dentist's office...under my own power, no less! I didn't even cry or make those moaning sounds, either! And she (the dentist) was just as kind and gentle as I remembered her. Well, the tooth has a big 'ole cavity in it, under the filling. She could not believe it had not been hurting me. THANK YOU, JESUS! She went on to say that maybe the nerve had died, so that was the reason it wasn't hurting. I don't know if that is good or bad...but it IS good it doesn't hurt. She said that she would have to....you know, the "D" word. That thing that makes such a horrid noise. She will clean it all out and maybe just have to put a crown on it....or maybe that other SCARY thing...it's 2 words and starts with root... UGHHHHH! I can't even think about that now. How will I ever walk in there if I know they may do that? She smoothed out the rough place on the tooth and said it would be better not to open it up until I got back. O.K., that's cool. I can deal with that.....put it off..looooong time. No, I did go ahead and make an appt for the 28th. Yeah, something to look forward to.
O.K. Deep breath..let go of all that tension...just let it go...replace it with palm trees and blue water and tall, cool drinks and 3 Southern Belles toolin' around Maui...in a mustang convertible. Oh, that's much better...That's what I'll think about. Scary things can wait till I get back.
Seriously, friends, I felt your prayers. Isn't God good? He reaches down and puts His arms around us and holds us close...and He doesn't laugh or call us silly, either. He just loves us. I thank you for listening to me rant for the past 2 days, too. Your kind words helped so much. Just be prepared...I'll probably start up again when it close to D-Day again. Blessings to you!

OTHER OPTIONS
I went to Wal-Mart last night. Guess what I found while I was buying toothpaste? You can buy filling stuff for your teeth...you know in case a filling was to fall out and you could not get to the dentist. Know anyone like that? And you can buy those mirrors on a stick and the little picky things, too. I bought it all. I was thinking that if I took that stuff with me, then I wouldn't have to go to the dentist tomorrow and Tina and Shirl could fix my tooth if it got worse. While I was across the sea. In Maui. Away from the dentist.
However.....Don pointed out that if I just go to the dentist tomorrow like I have planned, it would all be taken care of, and there would be no cause to even think about it while I was gone, and I could have a much better time if I wasn't worrying about my tooth hurting, and I wouldn't have to bother my friends by making them practice dentistry while we are all on the trip of our lives! Makes sense to me...therefore....I AM going....to the dentist...tomorrow.
And all will be well.
Your kind thoughts have strengthened me...and not a single one of you called me silly or foolish. Thanks, my friends. I'll let you know how it all turns out as I face bravely the unknown terrors of the dentists chair.
But, just to be on the safe side....PRAY!!!!!!!

BUMMER
As you well know, my mind is on 1 thing these days...or at least it was.
There are not many things that I have a fear of. Thanks to a Daddy who taught me that there was nothing I could not do if I just tried. (Thanks, Pop) But, a fear I have never conquered is my fear of the dentist. I put off going as long as I can, and only make the appointment when there is no other way out. Yes, I know this is irrational, and silly.....well, it's just plain stupid, really. And, my mind knows that...but my soul still feels like running for the hills. And, I do not know why I have this fear, or why it is so strong.....but it is. I have prayed for help in overcoming it, but so far....it's as strong as ever. Several years ago, I began having a terrible toothache, and I knew I had to find some help fast. I had run into a high school friend recently and she told me she was a dental assistant. So, I called her and asked for "HELP!" She tried to calm my fears and said to come right then. Because I did not think I could pull the offending tooth from my head...I went. The dentist was wonderful. She was very calm and understanding. And, she promised not to hurt me. And she didn't. I ended up having to have 2 root canals and never felt a thing. Not even pain afterwards. She got me all fixed up, and I promised myself that I was going to go regularly from then on. I didn't. And, now a part of a filling has fallen out. And I have been paralyzed. I leave for my trip on Saturday, and I was toying with the idea of taking a chance that all would be well, and I could wait till I got back. I knew I should call and see about this...but I could not make the call. I am such a fool. Don saw me wincing and asked about it, and told me I WAS GOING TO FIX IT........NOW! He called today and they will see me on Wednesday. Which is fine, because it is not hurting...it is just rough on my tongue. Plus, that gives me another day and a half to work myself up into a twisted mess. I am ashamed of myself for being like this...and for not going back to see her sooner, and now I am in a mess and it's time for my trip, and why didn't I just do the right thing, but I am so scared, and this is silly and it serves me right, and ...and...and...
Just say a prayer for me, my friends...obviously I need it....BAD!
