YOU ASKED FOR IT......

Somehow, when the genes were being passed out, I got passed over. At least, in the kitchen prowess department. Now, my Mom is a terrific cook...she loves new recipes, and she loves feeding her family. We love it when she calls us over to eat. Joy is also a great cook. She does 'from scratch' cooking like Mom. She makes her own egg rolls, for goodness sake! But, the thought of chopping veggies and onions, cutting meat into little pieces, smashing garlic, etc. has about as much appeal to me as sitting in the dentist's chair for a root canal. I can do it, and have. But my motto is FROM THE CAN TO THE PAN TO THE MAN! When I told my Granny Merritt that many years ago, she laughed so hard...and said, "You're a smart girl!" And then she had me write in down for her because she couldn't remember it. When she died several years ago, that old piece of paper was in a box of her papers. She obviously though it had merit. (Her last name was Merritt, by the way!:))

Anyway...here's my recipe for TACO SOUP...

1 1/2 -2 pounds ground beef....brown and drain
1 onion...chopped (or onion flakes...or you can buy frozen chopped onions)
1 package taco seasoning
1 package dry ranch dressing mix
1 can pinto beans..do not drain
1 can black beans...do not drain
1 can whole corn...do not drain
1 can Ro-tel tomatoes...do not drain
2 cans stewed tomatoes...do not drain
*************************************************
Here, my recipe says: add the dry mixes to the browned ground beef...mix.
Add the beans and vegetables...mix
Heat to simmer for 35-45 minutes.
*****************************************************
Now...Tonja's version...
I put it all into my crock pot and cook it on low until I get back to it. I have added kidney beans, too. But, we prefer the black beans and pinto beans. If there is room in the crock pot, I'll add 2 cans of the beans...or corn..whatever I have on hand. This is better the second day...and the third, if it lasts that long! I serve it with grated cheddar cheese on top. You can also pour it over corn chips, if you like...we don't like.

So...that's it. It tastes like you spent way more time on it than you did...and there's no reason to tell anyone any different...just hide all the cans!

Enjoy!

THANKSGIVING 2008

What an unusual day. A day that did not follow my plans. In fact, nothing went like I wanted it to today...oh, well.

First of all, I told you how my menu was taco soup with everyone stopping by when it was convenient. And, the family was all fine with that. See, there is hardly anyplace to sit...the table is stacked with sets of dishes to be packed...the den is filled with boxes stacked high...so there is no 'conversation area' anymore. And, I wanted to use the day to finish packing the bedroom and closet.

Don had other ideas. He wanted a meal...no, he wanted a MEAL. And, so, on Wednesday night, off to the store he goes. And, into the house he comes...laden with fixins for a MEAL. Now, to his credit...he did all the cooking. He grilled pork tenderloin, a giant pot of butterbeans, corn, and dressing he bought from a local restaurant. I had gotten up early and made banana nut muffins, and later made brownies (see post below). But, no taco soup was made in the Owens home on Thursday.

Mom and Pop are both sick. Pop is having medication issues with some of the meds that control his heart rhythms. Hopefully, we are on the right track now, since they have just changed them again. Mom, however, is in much pain. Her arthritis is really hurting her, and she is waiting to hear from an MRI that she had on Wednesday. I can't stand to see my sweet Mama is so much pain. If the doctor doesn't call her by a reasonable time today, I will be calling him.

Anyway, so I knew they wouldn't be coming over. Now, Joy and Tommy had plans for a quiet day, too. Joy has been dealing with a broken foot and lugging a cast around. And Tommy is having several health issues that are not being resolved quickly. (Really he is just OLD...but don't tell him I said so). They had plans to go out for lunch, but my niece, newly engaged to Ben, guilted her into cooking since "this will be my last Thanksgiving as a single girl living at home, sweet Mama, oh, please..." And, Joy caved. So, I knew they had their own plans.

Suzanne and Adam were going to her Mom's for lunch, and I knew Mary would have a feast for them. And, I knew they would not be hungry again for a while. So, all that to say, this is why my plans consisted of a laid back day.

Ian came over around 4 and Don had his feast ready. Don, Alex, and Ian were about to chow down when Adam and Suze arrived. We all had prayer together, and Don, Alex and Ian heaped plates full and proceeded to pig out. Oh, it looked good, and smelled good, too. They were all praising Don's cooking skills. Adam and Suze were sitting politely by watching them eat...as they were stuffed from Mary's feast. I decided to try some of the tenderloin, as it smelled so divine. The first taste of it was good...a little sweet and tangy, but in about 10 seconds the fire hit! Oh! My! what did you put on this meat? It was burning my mouth and throat! Oh, Don then explained that it was probably the cayenne pepper...and he may have used a tad too much. YA THINK?????

Adam and Suze were tired so they left after about an hour, and Ian was also ready to hit the hay, so he was gone quickly. I washed up all the dishes, and went to bed, too. Alex and Don proceeded to the couch, where they watched a movie. I do not know what they watched, but it was all about airplanes fighting each other. And they fought for 2 hours, complete with surround sound, which had the majority of the bombing happening right over my bed. LOUD BOMBING...MANY, MANY AIRPLANES...MUCH WAR!

So, there ya go...nothing according to plan...and nothing accomplished that was on my agenda. But, inside my refrigerator sits about 2 gallons of butterbeans, and some hot, VERY HOT pork tenderloin, a little dressing, and half a plate of brownies. Supper for the next 2 nights, wouldn't you say?

And, there, sitting out on the counter, are all the fixins for taco soup. Ready to be cooked...one day...but, not today...Thanksgiving 2008.

EVEN ON THANKSGIVING...

It could seem, I'm sure, that these past few encounters I have shared with you, must be 'made up'. But, as strange as it is...they have all happened...just as I have told them to you. I think the Lord is teaching me something...in fact I'm sure of it after today...

********************************************************************************

I had to make a quick run to Wal-Mart this afternoon for some cooking oil. I wanted to fix Ian some brownies and I did not have enough to make 1/2 cup. I parked near the Garden Center and hurried in. I located the oil and headed to the check out counter. Because it was the middle of Thanksgiving Day, the store was not very full. Wal-Mart, in our town, is notorious for not opening up enough lanes to accommodate the people wishing to check-out...but today there were several lanes with no one waiting. I picked the express lane, since I never qualify for the '10 items or less' on my regular trips to shop there. And...right there...waiting for me...was ...another one...

The clerk who was working was an older lady, who was not where she wanted to be on Thanksgiving Day. The customer was a man around the age of 70, dressed in overalls, a long sleeved T shirt, a flannel shirt, a down vest, and heavy work boats. He had a full beard, and a pony tail that reached to the middle of his back. Topping it all off was a knit cap. It was 73 degrees here today...he was way overdressed.

The man was in search of some "snuff...the green box...got little pouches in it...and it feels a mite cold in yer mouth." Well, that is about as good a description as a body could want. The clerk, however, didn't get the picture quite so easily. "You want something that tastes 'cold'? None of this says cold on it," she told the man, "and all we got here comes in a tin box. They ain't no pouches." The man tried his best to explain, "hit don't say cold on it, but it just feels a mite cold in yer cheek, see. It's just them little pouches in the round box, and it's green." "So, you're looking for a green, round box in a pouch?" she asked. "I don't know 'bout all that, I just want my snuff...the cold kind...in the little bundles," he explained. The clerk had reached her limit, so she yelled across the aisles...4 to be exact. "Mary Sue, you ever hear tell of a bundle of snuff that comes in a round box and tastes cold?" Mary Sue, bless her sweet heart, came over and said, "Velma, I don't know beans about snuff. But, Granny dips a little, and she likes that Cooper's Ment kind. Here see if this is what he wants." Friends, I kid you not, this is not a lie...it was Copenhagen Menthol! But, Cooper's Ment sounds so much like Copenhagen Menthol, I can see where she would get confused.

Well, the old fella's face lit up. "Yep, that's it! That's just what I been hankerin' today. This'll do me some more good! How much is it?" I began to feel a little Deja vu as he pulled a hand full of coins out of his overall pockets and dumped them on the counter. "That should cover it, I reckon," he said. Velma was not at all happy to have to count out the mound of coins, but she plunged right in to the task ahead. First, she separated them into groups...quarters with quarters, dimes with dimes, etc. Then she commenced to counting. And, I commenced to praying..."O, Sweet, Lord, please let this man have enough money to buy this snuff. I cannot deal with the dilemma of whether I should help him out or not. I know snuff is not good for a body, but , what would you have me do? It's wrong to help someone if helping them is really causing them to do harm to themselves. Lord, I know there is a right answer to this, but for the life of me, I just don't have the wits about me to figure it out today. Please let him have it the $1.87" As I was praying, Velma was drawing on her grammar school math lessons to count the coins..."57...67..77" she counted. I cringed...I knew what was coming..."Sorry, Mr., you don't have enough. You need another dime." "Oh, Lady", he said, "That's all I got...they ain't no more." He looked at her, and she looked at him...and I put my hands in my pockets. My fingers touched something small and round and hard...I pulled it out...and you already know what it was...a dime! I promise you...there was a dime, sitting all alone in my pocket! Just sitting there...waiting...to be used...to do a kindness to someone I did not know. "Well, Lord, I'd say that is a pretty clear answer as to what I should do."

And, so, I pulled out the dime and laid it on the counter next to his pile of coins. He turned and looked at me, and, in the humblest of voices, he said, "I'll pay you back next time." And, I replied, "That'll be just fine." He already had the wrappings off the round tin of Copenhagen Menthol in pouches, and was getting ready to pop it in his mouth, and "feel the cold." He had it out of the tin and into his mouth in one swift move. "Ummmmm", is the only other thing he said. "Happy Thanksgiving, Mr."

DEAR GOD...

I hope your Thanksgiving is full of good food, good fun, and lots of good laughs!

THE INCIDENT AT THE GROCERY STORE

I told you...the 'weird ones' just sit around and wait for me to walk by and then they flaunt their particular brand of 'crazy' right in front of me!

Today, I stopped at a local grocery store that used to be Bruno's. I never can remember its new name. Anyway, since we are coming up so quickly (or slowly, depending on your point of view) on the move to the Creek House, I do not intend to cook a full course Thanksgiving Dinner...actually, I don't intend to cook a half course Thanksgiving Dinner. I'm thinking a big pot of Taco Soup will fill the bill nicely. But, I digress...I stopped in to get the ingredients and lay in a big supply of Diet Dr. Pepper. And, it was in the check-out lane that this story begins.

I looked for a short line, and found a lane where there were 2 ladies checking out. I figured I would be out of there in a snap. I figured wrong. First strange thing I noticed...was a wad of something laying on the counter. It was most unusual conglomeration of things I have seen all tucked in together. There was one of those rubber, spiky bouncy balls, and a silver police whistle, there was a coin purse shaped like a fish, and a pair of dice. There was an small football, and a key chain in the shape of an angel, complete with a sparkly halo, and a tube of lip gloss. All of these were somehow connected to each other and hanging from the key chain was a set of about 38 or so keys. She kept picking it up and moving it down the line as she moved along. She seemed to be having an argument of some sort with her lady friend. "You sure you ain't got 24 cent? 24 cent ain't very much." "Well, I said I ain't got it and I ain't! You not gonna die from thirst." "Well, if you ain't got all high and mighty. Can't help a friend out for a measly 24 cent." "I told you I ain't got it." And, with this she proceeds to dump her whole, entire purse onto the moving counter. The clerk's eyes nearly popped out! There were things in that purse that had not seen the light of day for years. I kid you not. There were socks...there were used tissues...there were feminine hygiene products...there was a pack of gum, and 2 bars of candy. There was a hairbrush, and 3 tubes of lipstick, a compact that had broken open...covering the entire contents of the purse with 'suntan glow.' And, out rolled several coins. "Here, count this and see if it's 24 cent. I'm just telling you it is all I got." The other woman started counting and obviously big numbers were not her thing, as she had to start over several times. I'm not sure if she ever got it right. "Shug, can I have a wet paper towel to clean off this powder?", she said to the clerk. The poor girl did not know what to say. She handed her a paper towel...dry. "Never mind, that ain't gonna work...I knew there weren't no 24 cent in here to start with."

This is where I could not keep silent any longer. Taking a dollar bill from my wallet, I said, "Mam, I would be happy to share this with you if you don't have quite enough money." "Well, why would you want to do that?", she asked. "I've been in the same situation myself and I would be so happy to share with you," I said. "Why?", she said again. "Well, I am just trying to be a good neighbor," I said. "Do you live near me?," she asked. "No, I don't think so, I said. "Well, why are you trying to give me money, Shug?," she asked again. Feeling very frustrated, I said, "Mam, I just figured if Jesus was standing here, He would help you and I'm just trying to do what He would do."

She turned to her friend and in a huff, she said, "Now, look what you did...got this woman feeling sorry for us." She scooped up the contents of her purse, and shoved it all back inside...except for the 'suntan glow' powder that covered the counter. Looking at the poor woman with her she said, "You won't never get my 24 cent...you can just drink water."

And, with that, they walked away...leaving the counter covered with face powder and a lukewarm RC Cola.

I don't think the clerk has recovered yet.

WINTER SYMPHONY

I must share with you this new album I purchased yesterday. It is by Sarah Brightman...A Winter Symphony. Such beautiful, beautiful music. Many of the songs are traditional...but not necessarily traditional Christmas. There are a few carols along with some new music. The arrangements are so moving, and her voice is such a pure instrument. She is joined by a choir of children on several of the selections. According to the Amazon review, this music is very British, and quite typical of British Christmas music. I could not say for sure if I agree with that or not...since I don't know what traditional British Christmas music is supposed to sound like. But, I do know this. The music on this CD is so beautiful, it makes me weep. Now, it takes a lot to get me to that point. I am not a crier. But, listening to Amazing Grace, one of the tracks, in my car on the way to work this morning...I was moved to tears.

Don't buy this looking for a happy, 'Santa' type album, although there is some of that. But, if you believe in the worship worthiness of the Christmas season...this is the one for you!
********************************************************************************
I bought it at Barnes and Nobel, but it is available on Amazon.com for $12.99...and worth every penny and more!

MOVING DATE

We had a meeting yesterday with architect and builder to compare lists of things still to do at the Creek House. So, after covering several things that needed attention...we were told that we could move in on the 15th of December. Everything should be finished by then. We have been waiting for some time for the rest of the travertine to come in...from Turkey. Well, it is finally in this country. And they should be able to finish the porch and the pool deck next week. Then the landscaping will start. We are in a heavily wooded lot, and want it to stay that way. But, there are several trees and bushes and vines that need to be cut out. There will be a potting shed added to the back, and a wooden fence and an iron fence. The steps and a few other places need to be mortar washed. Several of the appliances have to be changed out, and we are waiting on the cabinet man to build Alex's bed. It will be custom made for him, with all controls located in the bed. The TV and sound systems have to go in, but not until the locks are changed...because I can not open them. The keys stick in the lock. Then a final clean up and it will be ours!

You know, I have been thinking that we would be able to move in November, and at first I was very disappointed about the change. But, upon thinking more about it, I realize that God has been working out this plan all along. I am so wrapped up at school right now with 3 programs to practice. And guess when my final program is? December 15! How's that for timing? In all honesty, I tend to get way stressed about this time of year...programs, shirts, shopping, decorating, meal planning, etc. But, this year...I can concentrate on my programs. There will be no decorating, and the shirts are already at the printers. The majority of the shopping has been done, as has most of the packing. So, this moving thing should be easy enough without all that extra to worry with.

Good plan, God, good plan!

JUST WRAP IT...TO GO

Do you ever have the feeling that the strange, weird and incompetent people of the world just seek you out?

While shopping recently, I purchased several gifts and some decorative Christmas items. In one store, I bought 2 very lovely mercury glass vases. Not outrageously expensive, but not cheap either. The clerk put one of them into a plastic bag and was attempting to put the other one in the same bag when I stopped her. "I think these need to be wrapped before they are bagged, please,"I said. "Oh, ok then," she replies. Then she proceeded to put the second vase into its own bag. She got a bigger bag and was going to put both of the vases into the bigger bag. "Mam, I am travelling and I am afraid these will break if they are not wrapped," I said as kindly as possible. "I wrapped it in the bag," she answered sharply. "Well, do you have any tissue paper you can wrap around them so they won't knock against one another?" I said. "No, all I have is this white paper...you will have to go to the back if you want them gift wrapped," she answered. (What she had was a stack of white butcher paper used for wrapping fragile items). So, I asked her if I could have a few sheets of the white paper. "I'll have to find out how much it is...there is no price on it." YES, she really did say that! So, I decided to just watch and see just how looney she really was. Turning to the girl at the register next to her, she asked her how much to charge me for the sheets of paper. Clerk 2 looked at her like she had lost her mind. I could have told her that I had already ascertained that yes,indeed, her mind has gone on a permanent walk around the block!
"You talking about the wrapping paper?, she asked. "No, I told her where the wrapping was...she wants to buy some of this paper here." The Clerk 2 looked at me like 'is she for real?'. I explained, "I bought 2 glass vases and just wanted them wrapped in some tissue to protect them since I am travelling. Clerk 2 looked at Clerk 1 and said, "Give her the paper." "Just give it to her?" asked Clerk 1. "Just give her the paper!" There was quite a line formed by now and several other people were enjoying this spectacle of "ain't got a clue". Clerk 1 is still looking at clerk 2 trying to figure out if she was going to get in trouble for giving me the wrapping paper. "Oh for pete's sake!" said Clerk 2. She then left her register and walked over to the register where I was. She took the vases out of the bags and proceeded to wrap them in the butcher paper. Then she wrapped each one in several plastic bags, she cushioned the bottom of the shopping tote bag and carefully placed them inside and then cushioned them with more tissue. Those vases were gonna ride safe and as well protected as possible. Clerk 1 was just standing back, watching, and chomping on her hot pink bubble gum. When Clerk 2 finished, she turned to Clerk 1 and said, "that is what you do with fragile items." And Clerk 2 walked back to her register. (NOW THIS IS TOO GOOD.) Clerk 1 said to Clerk 2, "Well, you still didn't tell me how much to charge her for the paper." Clerk 2 turned around very slowly, she smiled sweetly, "Honey, we're giving that paper away today." Clerk 1 said to me, "Wow, it's a good thing you came today." "Yes," I told her, "I was thinking the same thing!"

I DON'T LIKE THIS, EITHER...

As far as I know, I did not lose any friends over my post yesterday! Thanks for not taking it personally! (Sure glad Sherrie has a sense of humor!)

So, here I go again. But, don't worry...you are safe from my ranting this time. Unless one of you happen to be a magazine publisher.

I just bought a magazine while I was at Target. After arriving home, I sat down to read it and enjoy a few moments of solitude. Instantly, upon opening said magazine, I was bombarded by an avalanche of subscription cards. Now, I kid you not, out of the new Country Home magazine fell 8 different cards offering me all the benefits of subscribing to their lovely periodical. I really enjoy reading magazines and I subscribe to several, but since we are moving (hopefully SOMETIME before this year is over!!!!!) I have let all of my subscriptions lapse. But, this so infuriates me, that it makes me not even want to subscribe at all. Why, with the 'greening of America',would any responsible company put so many throwaway cards in their publication? And since I am kicking the mags here, let me go on to say that I do not like the cards that are glued into the magazine at intervals for various reasons either. It keeps the book from lying flat, especially if you are reading propped up in bed as I am known to do. Now, I don't expect to have the magazines suddenly change their policies because I put up a fuss. But, I feel better just getting this off my chest.
.
Now...tissue paper. Not toilet, or nose blowing, but wrapping presents and fragile things tissue. I looked the store over for a package of printed tissue paper. Now this is not a Target only problem...this is everywhere. When you find some lovely tissue that would be just perfect for you to put in the bags that you bought for your Christmas gifts causing them to be all color coordinated and everything...look closely, you will find that in a package of ...say 20 sheets, only 2 of them are actually printed. The rest are some sad 'ole color that doesn't even come close to matching. BUT, they fold it all together so it LOOKS as if you are getting a package full of the desired print. This is just not right.

Target has some of the best looking wrapping supplies available to us here in my town. And, I was so excited today to find a complete coordinated collection that I really liked. Printed bags, small bags with handles, big bags with handles, huge bags with handles, boxes, gift card holders, bows, tags,...all in one convenient place. I gathered some of these and a few of those and 2 or 3 of those over there...and several of the gift card holders. And then, I bent to get the tissue paper that would pull it all together. Sure enough, 2!!! coordinating pieces and the rest were white! This would totally cause my wrapping color scheme to fall apart, and look as if I used leftover packing tissue. I would have had to buy at least 15 packages of tissue to get enough to pull those packages up to the level I had envisioned sitting around the bottom of my tree...in the middle of the den...in the Creek House...at Christmastime...(IF we ever get there!!) I just wanted to put the whole selection back and forget it...but, my time is limited, and I really liked it. I did not, however, buy any tissue. Instead I will traipse around our fair city in hopes of finding another color to use. This will take extra gas, and time, and wear and tear on the body, and additional mental anguish. But, I am committed to having pretty packages...whatever it takes! And since I have NO MOVING DATE as of yet...I have the time! Or, I could just forget it all, return all the gifts, and give everyone a gift card!
(this is not the wrapping collection of which I am speaking...just a pic to illustrate)

THIS IS JUST MY OPINION...BUT...

When I have a few moments to get on the computer, it is because I want a quiet time to catch up with friends, read a few e-mails, learn something I did not know, and yeah...listen to some music.

I have all my fav music on my computer. And according to the mood I am in, I have just the right music to accompany my thoughts.

I know that you, too, have your favorite songs to listen to. And, many of you have them playing when I go to your blog. Now, that is your blog and I have no right to stick my nose into how you run it. But, just in case you haven't thought about it, let me bring this to your attention. It is very annoying when those of us with our own music playing have to search for a place to turn off your music. And, if we can't find it, then we have to cut off ours. I will now be so bold as to ask you this. If you want music coming from your site when it is opened...would you please consider putting the music thingy up top on your sidebar so it can be found easily...so we can turn it off...and listen to our music choices...they do not sound very nice trying to play over each other...I'm just saying...

Once again, I apologize for being so bold and getting all up in your 'biz-ness.'..but, we are all friends here, aren't we? You are so kind and gracious to listen to this humble blogger's opinion. And, many other bloggers have shared the same thoughts. NOW, if this request is making you feel a little like "just who does she think she is...telling me how to run my blog...I can do whatever I like and it is none of her business. I will play music if I want to, and she can't stop me...the nerve of some people!?!"...then, "Never mind."

*********************************************************************************
I love music. I love all kinds of music...except heavy metal...and some rap. And, one of my favorite genres is Christmas Music. However, let me issue a qualification.

There is nothing as beautiful as the old familiar Christmas carols. Those dear songs that can immediately transfer you back to the Christmas of your childhood. Memories of those sweet songs learned early in life, and sung year after year, are indeed precious. Nothing can ever take their place.

However, there are new and equally as worshipful songs being written today. I so enjoy new Christmas music. I get excited every year when I see favorite groups have come out with a Christmas album. But, I admit that usually I am disappointed when I find that all the songs are the same ones that we have heard for years. Don't hate me! I adore those songs, but, just how many recordings do you need of the old, sweet carols? You probably have recordings of these by your own favorite artists, as do I. So, I never bother buying new renditions of these. But, when I find a recording of new seasonal music...I am anxious to give it a try.

I have just returned from my local K-Mart, where I went to fill my boxes for Operation Shoebox. As I passed by the music aisle, I saw the display of Christmas CDs and had to check them out. I have always found the music from Enya to be very hauntingly beautiful and quite soothing. So, I was anxious to give this a listen. It even has 2 of those 'old, familiar carols' done in her particular style. I am very pleased with this purchase, and am happy to recommend it to you. Her version of Silent Night is especially beautiful. And there is new music that is equally as nice.
I purchased this one for $15.99, but I notice that Amazon has it for $9.99.

I can also highly recommend: Holiday Songs and Lullabies by Shawn Colvin...It's A Wonderful Christmas by Michael W. Smith...Wintersong by Sarah McLaclan...A Christmas Reunion by Various Artists...A Christmas To Remember by Amy Grant...Christmas Songs by Jars of Clay. I'd love to hear what your favorites are.

WAITING...

OK...I have had about enough of this house building business. WHEN do I get to move in? I do not want to wait anymore...I am tired of waiting. I am tired of living with boxes packed up all around me. I am tired of driving over to look at my new house and then having to drive off and leave it sitting there. It is crying out for a family to inhabit it!

We got word today that it would be around the first of December before we could move. I was planning to start taking boxes over the week of Thanksgiving, but Don has informed me that I can not put anything into the house until we take possession of it. Bummer! There goes my plans for the week of Thanksgiving.

As I have (hopefully) matured through the years, I have learned a few hard lessons about myself. I have heard it said you really start to grow up when you can begin to see things about yourself that need improving. I know, for example, that I am impatient. I tend to get bored easily. I don't enjoy staying on one thing for too long...I like to move along and do something else. This house building project has not moved along as fast as I would like. Isn't that silly? I mean, of course it is going to take many months to build a house! Now, that I can see the end...I want it to be here yesterday! If everybody just stopped what ever else they were working on and concentrated on my house, all would be well. Since that is not gonna happen...I am just going to have to wait. Patiently. Or not.

I was really looking forward to decorating the Creek House for Christmas. I know just how I want it all to look...I have done it over and over in my head. But, because I am so mature now, I realize that it may just be foolish to try to get it decorated for the holidays. OOHHH! That is hard to say. But, it may be Christmas 2009 before I see it in its holiday finery. I had also planned to host our teacher's luncheon for Christmas. But, this is not going to be doable, either. Another teacher has graciously offered her home...and I think that is best.

I mean, it's not like I don't have plenty to keep me busy... with the 3 programs at school, and my other responsibilities. Maybe this is even one of those times when God is giving me what I NEED instead of what I WANT. I tend to stress out quite easily these days, what with the 'mental pause' and the other everyday stresses. So, maybe, He knows I just couldn't handle it all at once. So, I should just kick back...do what I CAN do...and WAIT until the time comes for me to do the rest. I should just rest in the bliss of knowing the day is coming soon when I can move into my dream house. I should be thankful that I am so much closer than I was at this time last year. I need to be peaceful and calm and serene as I wait for the go ahead to move. I need to "cool it" and "chill out" and "not get my panties in a wad".......FAT CHANCE! I just need to get on with it!

BIRMINGHAM RECAP

Oh, what a delightful time we had in Birmingham on Monday and Tuesday. We left early Monday morning...much earlier than Mom likes to arise...but she was a real trooper, and was ready to hit the road! As we travelled, we worked on our master list of places to go and things to shop for. We all had our favorites. It was looking doubtful that we would get it all in even before we got there.

MONDAY
Our first stop was a neat little gift shop in the Patton Creek shopping center called Wrapsody. They have a very cool selection of gift items and decorations. On to Mom's shoe store, Unique Feet...because hers are...and tiny, too. She managed to score a great pair of casual shoes. They were so comfortable, she wore them all day Tuesday! Next stop...World Market. We like to check out their ornaments and food stuff. It is on to Hobby Lobby...where I can always find things I need...even if I didn't know I did. Love to check out their Christmas goodies. Most everything I wanted was at least 50% off! That is a sure sign you need it, don't ya know? And, all their fall and Thanksgiving was 75% off!! Found some things to pack away for next year...(hope I'll remember where). Finished up there and headed over the mountain to Homewood. We passed Homegoods...my most fav, but we're coming back tomorrow on the way out of town. (We didn't make it) In Homewood, we were looking for the new location of White Flowers Gallery...it recently moved from Mountain Brook. Their new store is so spacious. It doesn't feel quite as cozy, but still a wonderful place to visit and shop. Then a few stores up the way to At Home. I could spend a mint here. I love EVERYTHING! Great ornaments, and wonderful furniture...the neatest candles and pot pourrie...jewelry for yourself or your house! Love this store! Next door is Harmony House, but nothing much interested me here, this time. Saw a new art gallery, floral, antique shop across the street...Four Seasons...very nice! And, by this time...we began running out of steam. So, to the motel, we go.

Found the motel...checked in, and decided that since we had not eaten since the biscuit we had in Ozark about 7 am...food should be the next order of business. Mom decided that she would play the age card and send her 2 young daughters out on a mission to find supper...while she relaxed and rested in the room. Can you imagine?
These beautiful trees were from our motel room window.

So, dutiful daughters that we are, and being respectful of our elder, we took off in the direction of sustenance for our weary body. PFChang's was calling our names...so there we went. It was only about 4:30, so we beat the rush for dinner. We ordered way too much food and sat down to drink a glass of tea and rest while we waited. Got our order, and headed back to show Mama how resourceful we were.

I must remind you that we have learned our shopping skills from a Master Shopper, Mom, herownself. So, when I say that our car was loaded with packages...I mean our car was loaded with packages! We knew it would not be wise to leave them in the car overnight...so along with our mega size sack of edibles from Chang's...we also loaded up our other available appendages with various sized packages. Because, it would be just wrong to make 2 trips, ya know. Have I mentioned that Joy has her foot in a huge air cast? Loaded, yes, nigh on to overloaded, with bags....we began our slow trek to the room. We made it to the outside door...and realized that yes, we would indeed have to put the packages down upon the dirty ground to retrieve the key card with which to open the outer door. Joy managed to do this, and without thinking then stuck the key between her teeth. She will probably get some vile disease from that...but, what is a girl to do? She was taking chances for the cause. We made it to the elevator...and a silly picture got us tickled and we were done for. We could not walk for laughing...we could not walk for all the packages between our legs...we could not walk because every step I took more sweet tea oozed out of the soggy paper cups...we could not walk because I had not taken the time to go to the potty since I left my house at 6 am, and every fit of laughter threatened to cause me much embarrassment! Then, when we finally got our rested Mom to the door, we fell into it, and collapsed on the bed in fits of laughter!
Mom got right to work setting us up with a table fit for a queen and 2 princesses! And, we proceeded to chow down. There was sweet and sour chicken, shrimp fried rice, lettuce wraps, spring rolls, steamed rice, and dessert...and a fortune cookie. Joy's fortune cookie stated "Life gets harder near the summit." If you know Birmingham, you know one of the best shopping areas is called the Summit...and we were right down the road! Coincidence? I think not.

After we pigged out...literally...we began the arduous task of separating the loot and trying to consolidate it into fewer bags. This completed, we hit the beds...watched a little TV, and Mother and Joy drifted off to dreamland. I, on the other hand, picked this night as one of those when sleep will not come...no matter how hard you try. The last time I looked at the clock it was 3:30.

TUESDAY
Morning is here, and sleep or not...we must soldier on. Quick breakfast in the motel...and on to the Summit. First stop...Smith and Hawken. LOVE THIS STORE!! And, they have the best Christmas stuff, plants, garden stuff. We all managed to do some damage here. Next up was Williams-Sonoma...for a few kitchen gifts, and Restoration Hardware right next door. On to Talbot's for Joy and Mom...and I headed over to Urban Outfitter's. They don't like this place. While I, on the other hand, find it very amusing. Sometimes a little shady...but I don't look at those things! Managed to find a few gifts here AND an orange quilt for Alex's new room. Cause, this is just the kind of store that would have a bright orange quilt! Lucky find! Next is Pottery Barn, who always seems to know when I am coming, because they stock the store with EVERYTHING I WANT! Managed to help the economy quite a bit here. Found some things for the house including a set of 12 chargers for my new table! Next, up the hill to Anthropoligie...Love, Love, Love! Neat assortment of everything! I ran into Coldwater Creek and J Jill looking for a pair of black knit pants...but no luck. The sky is beginning to darken, and it's a long road home. One more quick stop into Cheesecake Factory to get a piece of cheesecake to take home to Alex...and off we go.
Mom loves to play with the toys she finds while shopping!

We realized we were hungry, so we rode down 280 to get a burger. I just figured that certainly we would run into a connection to 65 down that way. We did not. We did however turn down a road that looked promising. It was not. But, it was an absolutely gorgeous winding path that brought us back out to 280. I called Ian, who was sitting in the airport in Raleigh, NC at the time, to ask how to get home. He was a little exasperated with me. I don't know why. We finally got a gentleman in a car next to us to roll down his window and asked him how to get where we wanted to go. He said to follow him...and he led us right to 119. Another beautiful drive. This led us back to 65...and the road home.

All of which left us with wonderful memories of another great adventure with those I love the most. We figured God just wanted us to see some more of His handiwork while we toured around HWY 280 and 119. And we did. Then he sent us an angel to show us the way home... isn't that just like Him?

SUNSHINE

Today is the anniversary of the day a little ray of sunshine came into my life. Alex was born 11-11-81. I had tried very hard to become pregnant after Adam was born, but it just did not happen. Finally after surgery, and 2 different fertility drugs, I became pregnant with Alex. His delivery was so special. My doctor at the time was so cool...he let my sister and a good friend stand at the door of the delivery room to watch and cheer me on. Don was there. And we even taped it. I kept saying, "Someone give me my glasses so I can see!" He was such a beautiful baby, and from the very beginning his temperament was sweet. And has remained so. Alex started having headaches around age 5, and had serious vision problems which we attempted to correct with glasses. It wasn't until the 8th grade that we finally learned just what was causing all his physical problems.

But, I do not want to talk about that today. Today I want to talk about his sweet and kind spirit. He suffers daily, but remembers to remind me to stick to my diet! He hurts so terribly, but will kindly get up and come to the computer if he knows I am at an immmovable obstacle. If I am having a bad day, he will come and make sure I have all I need to make me comfortable. He remembers to tell me that I look nice when I leave the house. He treats Scooter with such love and tenderness. That dog would do anything for Alex. He loves him so. He makes sure Scooter never runs out of his favorite treats. He makes no demands. He kindly asks for help when needed. He has a quietness and gentleness about him that babies and little children are so drawn to. He is seldom loud, but loves to get into an occasional tussle with a brother or two. He is so knowledgeable about technology and such that many seek him out for information. His brothers will seek his computer advice often. Even though he is not out in the world very much, he is voracious in his quest for info on world events. He is the go-to guy for info on any world situation. He loves Fox news and Bill O'Reilly, and Shepherd Smith. He is a great fan of science fiction and loves manga...I'm not even sure I spelled that right...it is a type of Japanese animation. We watch Lost together every time it is on...he explains it to me. He sees the beauty in great art, and appreciates good literature. He never forgets Mother's Day or my birthday or Christmas. He has one of his 'elves' do his shopping and delivery. Then he keeps it hidden until just the right moment. He loved his grandma's tea cakes and black forest cakes, and he loves his granny's macaroni and cheese, and pound cakes. He adores his Aunt Joy, and is quick to say my friend Tina is really his friend.

Alex is sunshine to all who encounter him. He amazes us with his fortitude and inspires us with his attitude. He never complains or whines or says "why me?" He takes what has been given to him and gives back what he is able. He brings joy and comfort to me, and is able to say just the right thing when I am close to melting down over some silly something or other. He gives me strength. He models grace and humility. He has a forgiving spirit and is willing to give grace and show mercy to others. And he shows, more than most, what perseverance truly is. He never gets angry with God for his lot in life, but trusts Him fully and relies on Him daily. He prays for others as often as himself. He is a miracle that shows itself more with each passing day. He deserves happiness and joy. He defines patience and goodness. He is my boy...my sweet middle child. He is a man to be proud of.

You are my sunshine,
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When shies are grey.
You'll never know, dear,
How much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away.

THIS AND THAT

When I arrived home from work on Friday and went to check in on my blog...I was surprised by a beautiful new header...compliments of my sweet son, Adam. Isn't that a gorgeous picture? It is from a pic he took at a wedding he shot last week. I had not even asked him to change the header for me (he always does it because my computer skills haven't progressed that far yet). But, he knows that I like to keep up with the seasons, so he just did it without me asking. He's a mom's joy! Thanks, Adam!

Adam also just returned from driving my Pop to Atlanta to see his brothers. One of them is very ill, and Pop wanted to see him very badly. But, he really does not feel confident driving in Atlanta now, and it is a long trip. Adam was happy to take the time to drive him. He said it was great to spend time with his Pop, and to see his great uncles again. Isn't that the kindest thing for him to do? His heart is full of love and kindness, and he enjoys helping others.

This is what the rest of November consists of for yours truly...
1. 3 Christmas programs to teach, and polish...
2. 2 sets of t-shirts to get ordered and delivered...
3. a trip to Birmingham for furniture, Christmas, and house stuff shopping...OK...maybe some shoes, too...
4. a house to finish packing...
5. a house to move into...
6. a house to go back to and clean after moving...
7. 2 family birthdays...
8. and...isn't there a holiday somewhere in this month?

Any wonder I am home with a migraine today? So, if I am neglectful of my blogging, and absent from visiting all of you, my bloggy friends, please understand...I'll get in here when I can.

Mom and Joy and I are heading to Birmingham in the morning for a quick shopping trip. It's always such fun when we go off together. My architect has some furniture tagged for me to look at while I am there, so I will do that, too. Then home and back to work on Wednesday.

Ian will be leaving tomorrow to fly back to UNC to see his cleft doctors. There are still some minor problems that need to be fixed. This visit is just for a consult, though. Seems so funny...the first time we went to Chapel Hill, he was only 3 weeks old and in my arms. Now, he makes his plane reservations and car rentals and dr. appointments, and just tells me when it is. He has grown into a very self sufficient young man. He has great judgement and is very sure of what he wants. Again, he fills this Moms heart with joy!

While I am away on Tuesday, Alex will celebrate his birthday. Since his birthday falls on Veteran's Day...he was always out of school to celebrate. He thought that was quite a good thing! Alex deserves the best that life has. His life is not easy, and is a daily struggle. But, you will never find a young man with a gentler spirit and a kinder heart. Happy Birthday, Alex...you fill my heart with joy. I pray this year will be your best ever.

When I started this post, I didn't realize I would end up blogging about my children. I was just planning on filling you in on what is going on with me. I guess this shows you, too, just how blessed I am. My children are part of my everyday life. They are grown and live their own lives, but I thank God that we are able to interact so much with one another. They are the best(and I include my daughter-in-love). I am thankful and blessed. God is good and I do not take His blessings on this family for granted. And look, I get to spend a couple of days with my Mom and Sister, too. Thank-you, Lord. Thank-you.

THAT'S A BEAUTIFUL THING...# 43

GETTING EVEN

UH! OH! When Alex saw my post yesterday, he said, "Mama, don't you talk bad about my dog..he's a good boy." I told him that I was just stating the facts. Then he said,"You know Scooter doesn't like to be embarrassed." And I said, " well, then don't let him read my blog!" (This was all in jest, by the way)

Obviously, Alex let Scooter read the blog...and Scooter showed his displeasure...during the night...in the middle of my den...on the carpet...at least a gallon.

Alex and I have been on our knees trying to wick up the 'moisture'...then start to work on the stain. Scooter has been watching quietly from the sidelines...head down...just watching us work. This is not the way I planned to start my Friday.

I told Alex long ago that nothing good would ever come from teaching a dog to read...somethings are better left in their natural state.

Scooter is under my feet, as I type. I know what he's he thinking. You don't live with 5 males for as many years as I have without learning to decipher their subtle facial expressions and body language. Men, boys, dogs...makes no difference...a Mom can just tell.

"Hey Mom, quess we are even now, huh?" "Scooter, don't talk to me in that tone of bark!"

THE ADVENTURES OF SCOOTER

Scooter needed to go to the vet. He has been coughing for a month or so. Adam took him while I was in Maui, and he got an allergy shot, but the cough came back. So, back to the vet we go.

Now this is not I job I enjoy. I have spent many an hour in doctor's offices with children...and it was not fun. It is even less fun to sit in an office with a dog. Of course, to be perfectly honest, having a leash around the neck of the ill one does tend to make it a little easier...sometimes.

Whenever the beloved Scooter sees that he is to be allowed out the side door onto the driveway and the wonders that it leads to, instead of the back door that leads to the confines of the fenced in yard, he becomes almost impossible to restrain. Therefore, one must first get the leash attached to his collar before he realizes that his view of the world is about to change. Cause when that door is opened...he is out of it like a bullet. "Where to go first? Over here. No, over there! No, back inside. No, just kidding! Let's go to the mailbox. Come on, Mama...let's go. Keep up with me! Come on, let's race. No? OK Where then? Gotta pee. OK now, I'm ready. In the car?!? Seriously? WE'RE GOING IN THE CAR? OH! Joy of joys! This is great! Life is good! LIFE IS GOOD...I"M GOING IN THE CAR!!!!! I'll just jump right in! OOPS! Let me try again! What happened? Did you make the car higher? Help me, MAMA!" And, so, I help this sweet old dog who is now 14 years old...in body...not soul...into the back of the car. And, off we go.

Now, about the time we hit the street, he realizes that about the only time he ever goes in the car is to visit his friend the vet,and the panic sets in. "O! My! Where are we going? I bet I know...we're going to the vet...I just know it. I just know it! I do not like to go to the vet. PLEEEEEASE, let's go somewhere else. I know, I hope she gets lost. Don't turn there." And, the poor pooch proceeds to breathe so hard and so fast, along with the nervous pacing and falling when I turn the corners, that it is astounding he can even stagger to his feet when I go around and open the back of the car. "I'll just jump out when she opens the door and make a run for it! She'll never catch me. I'm ready. Open the door...I'm outta here!" And, since I am a clever woman, who has been dealing with wayward boys and animals for quite some time...I crack open the hatch back and slowly reach under the door with one hand while trying to keep said hatch from flying up and hitting me smack in the face with the other. Which, I am most certain, causes me to contort my body into a very interesting pose. And, with much skill, I manage to grab the end of the leash about the same time that the hatch makes it into a fully opened position. This occurs at precisely the same moment that Scooter sees the opportunity to escape and grabs it. Swoosh, he's out...and headed to that delightful area known as the 'dog walk'. The only criticism I have with the dog walk is the fact that they have cat and dog statues in it. Cat and dog statues that leashes can get tangled up on...especially if you have the leash pulled out all the way. Which I did, because Scooter will not willingly wait for me to close the car door before he heads over to the garden of earthly delights. "Hurry, Mom! I gotta find out who has been here...hurry! hurry!. I'll just wait for you over here behind this concrete cat...after I circle it 10 times and get totally tangled up!" And, he did...get tangled...and wait. I had to go under the bushes to get to the concrete cat, and untangle him. All the while trying desperately not to step in...it.

OK...untangled we are, and back out on the sidewalk...at least I am on the sidewalk...Scooter is into the far reaches of the dog walk area...sniffing for all he's worth. Then a little 'watering and fertilizing', and we're good to go. On to the task at hand.

Now this, my friends, is the point in this tale where things start to go very wrong. I know from past experience that to get Scooter into the building, I'll have to 'reel him in' on the RETRACTABLE leash. So, I retract... ... ... N.O.T.H.I.N.G. There is no moving of dog towards human, as should be happening. And, friends, he is not going into that building on his own power. (I need to insert this tidbit of info...Scooter is the dog who defined the words 'hunker down.' He was born knowing exactly how to position his little black, white and brown self into what we call the 'hunker down stance'. He lowers the center of gravity by bending all 4 legs and leaning into the direction he wishes to go. Then he pulls with all the power he has...continuing to hold his body low to the ground. And, this is gospel...you WILL go where he wants to go. And, it really does not matter to him if you are running behind him, or being dragged through the streets.)

The retractable part of the retractable leash has chosen this moment NOT to retract. This is a catastrophe! I try again...still won't work. I tap it lightly on the ground...trying to coax it into working at least one more time. I bang it on the ground trying to show it who is boss. It seems it is. Now, here is where I begin to sweat. Cause I know I have a major fight on my hands.

Since Scooter is now about 20 feet away from me, it is not an easy thing to control him. I begin to wrap the leash around my hand in order to bring him closer. It does not take but 1 swift pull from him before I know this is not a good idea. So in order to regain control of the animal, I begin walking towards him in an effort to grab hold of his collar. Bear in mind that he is smack dab in the middle of the 'dog walk area' which has seen many a dog walking there. I can just tell. So, actually I tiptoe towards him. "Hey look at Mom! She thinks she is gonna come and get me. I'll wait till she gets closer...and then we'll play chase the dog!" And, I am not in a playing mood. Thinking fast, I step on the leash, and stop him mid-sprint. "WHOA! I don't think she wants to play right now. Bummer." Grabbing the leash, I slowly pull the unwilling dog towards me...and finally, I have his collar in my hand. And in we walk...me, bent over holding onto the collar, him, trying to avoid going in the same direction as I, and 20 ft. of leash trailing behind. I am thinking to myself how great it is to be the owner of a dog.

Once inside, I need to sign us in. This means that I have to turn loose of his collar. And, Scooter, being no dummy, takes that opportunity to rush the door. Just my luck, as he is standing there, scratching the glass for dear life, in comes another pet owner. A cat owner. Scooter doesn't think cats belong on the same planet as dogs...and he is quick to let this lady and her cat know this. She is actually about to jump up on the benches. I am telling her that he will not bite. And all the time he is showing her that he, indeed, has many teeth and is not afraid to use them. Who do you think she believed? I furiously call Scooter, while trying to explain that my leash is broken, and I am so sorry that she is afraid, and he really is no danger, and I never wanted a dog in the first place, this is Alex's dog and I am not responsible for his lack of manners. When I get my hands back on the collar, I allow him the smallest amount of slack, and I sit down and try to recover. Scooter, knowing that he has gone too far over that proverbial line, proceeds to walk to the center of the room and...let's just say...his nerves got the best of him.

I tell the young man at the desk that "we" have had an accident, and ask him to PLEEEEEASE put us back into an exam room to wait. I am not sure, but I think I saw him roll his eyes. Can't imagine why. But, he does as I ask...after he calls for "clean-up in the waiting area." Scooter and I, attached firmly to his collar, walk carefully across the waiting room floor, and enter an exam room.

"OH! NO! I know what this means! I know! I know! I do not want to be here. Let me out, let me out! OK...then I'll hide behind Mom. They will never find me there. No, I'll just get in her lap. No, I will lay on the floor...no, I'll hide. OK really, I'll just sit in her lap. No, they'll find me. OH, DEAR! OH, DEAR!" And we continue to play this lovely game until the girl comes in to weigh him. Clever girl that she is, she goes out and brings me a very short leash to replace the one that has died on me.

The visit with the doctor is uneventful...what with 3 of us surrounding him. We get his medicine. He gets 2 shots...and we begin the trek out to the car. As luck would have it, in walks a man with his dog walking calmly on a leash right beside him. Just like well-behaved dogs should . How embarrassing, as Scooter as gone into 'hunker-down mode' again. The man begins calling."Scooter, come here!" And, for the first time in his life, Scooter obeys a command. HOWEVER...the man is talking to his Scooter...not my Scooter. And my Scooter is highly offended when the treat that the man has in his hand goes to his dog and not mine. "Well, he said 'Scooter'...what's up with that other dog taking my name?"

Out the door, we finally go. To the back of the car...and with a boost from me, he's back inside. The hatch is down, I am driving, and Scooter is spread eagle on the floor. ..not even bothering to look out the windows. When we make it home, he goes right inside, drinks a gallon of water, and goes to his bed. It is not long before I am doing the same. "The vet? Nothing to it! Going there is a breeze!" He has another appointment in 3 weeks. I'm thinking I'll hire some help. And get a new leash!

AGENDA FOR TODAY

I'm following Kat's advice...

A NOTE FROM A VOTER

Well, it is here. The day that could possibly change America forever. Are you as nervous as I? I am reminded of this great truth: Nothing will happen today, or any day for that matter, that God does not allow. May He be merciful and grant our great country grace and protection today.

I am really not a political person. But, I felt a strong need to help spread information I felt needed to be heard. While you may disagree, everything that was posted was based on fact and I listed all sources to back it up. With the exception of "The Night Before Election'...that was a total opinion piece. Which, thank God, I am still free to voice. Now as to whether I am or am not a "nice, Christian woman", is not for you to decide...that is between me and God. However, as our pastor reminded us from the pulpit on Sunday..."Thou Shalt Not Kill" leaves no room for interpretation. I must back the candidate that follows God's law. God instituted marriage between a man and a woman...I must also stick with the candidate that follows this law. In Psalms, there is a verse that says..."if you don't work, you don't eat." Makes sense to me. We are also expected as Christians to help those who can not help themselves...and we should.

Thanks for reading and considering the posts that I thought worthy to print. I hope it made you think. And, thanks for the comments...even if we don't agree. Isn't it nice that we can disagree openly and without fear? This is a great country, and I pray with all my heart that God's man will be our next President.

'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE ELECTIONS

I recieved this in an e-mail last week, don't know the author, but he's right on!

(A take off on " The Night Before Christmas")

'Twas the night before elections

And all through the town

Tempers were flaring

Emotions all up and down!

I, in my bathrobe

With a cat in my lap

Had cut off the TV

Tired of political crap.

When all of a sudden

There arose such a noise

I peered out of my window

Saw Obama and his boys

They had come for my wallet

They wanted my pay

To give to the others

Who worked not a day!

He snatched up my money

And quick as a wink

Jumped back on his bandwagon

As I gagged from the stink.

He then rallied his henchmen

Who were pulling his cart

I could tell they were out

To tear my country apart!

" On Fannie, on Freddie,

On Biden and Ayers!

On Acorn, On Pelosi"

He screamed at the pairs!

They took off for his cause

And as he flew out of sight

I heard him laugh at the nation

Who wouldn't stand up and fight!

So I leave you to think

On this one final note-

IF YOU DONT WANT SOCIALISM

GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!

>>> A Humble Plea to McCain and Obama Supporters:
>>>
>>> Dear friends,
>>>
>>> I am truly astonished by the ignorance Obama
>>> supporters have displayed
>>> in their quest to get someone - ANYONE - into the
>>> White House. Now, wait
>>> a minute. I can well understand your dislike or even
>>> hatred of our clown, GWB, but he is not the root cause of
>>> all of our problems. Our Congress
>>> is. And a change there would be welcomed by all. You
>>> ain't gonna get
>>> it done with Obama. You gotta fire the whole damnable
>>> crooked Congress.
>>> (Read my book, 'BERNIE'S WAR!').
>>>
>>> Perhaps I'm looking at all of this from a
>>> different perspective than you
>>> because my life experiences have been so different
>>> from yours. I'm
>>> 80-years old and have traveled the world where
>>> I've seen a great deal.
>>> I spent five years on active duty as a fighter pilot
>>> in the USAF and
>>> another seven years flying with the Air National
>>> Guard in California and Texas as well as a few years flying
>>> in the USAF Reserve. I spent three years on active duty in
>>> Germany flying Czech border patrol with 'cold guns'
>>> in
>>> aircraft inferior to the MIG during the Korean
>>> 'Police Action' when it
>>> was thought that Korea was a diversion for a Soviet
>>> invasion of Western
>>> Europe.
>>>
>>> I lived abroad for a total of 28 years. Three years
>>> in Germany, twenty
>>> years in Switzerland and five years in Great Britain
>>> where I was based
>>> doing 'spook' work for the U.S. behind the
>>> Iron Curtain before it fell.
>>> During that era of the Cold War I ventured to Moscow,
>>> Prague, Warsaw,
>>> Bucharest, Peshawar, Pakistan and Bulgaria posing as
>>> a Swiss
>>> French-speaking arms dealer purchasing weapons we
>>> surreptitiously
>>> supplied to the Afghani Mujahedeen in their
>>> successful fight against the Soviets all of which came back
>>> to haunt us. I've been there and done that and have had
>>> close associations with top government people in Germany,
>>> the Netherlands and Great Britain. I've had more foreign
>>> affair experience than Obama could ever dream of and, yet,
>>> wouldn't have the temerity to deign myself
>>> 'Presidential' material; although I feel eminently
>>> more qualified to judge who would NOT be best for our
>>> country. My long-time world experience should count for
>>> something in my plea to you to abandon this miscreant flake.
>>> You will only be doing yourself and our country an enormous
>>> disservice if you persist in your support of this
>>> flash-in-the-pan opportunist. On this, you MUST trust me.
>>>
>>> I've associated closely with European royalty and
>>> African politicians.
>>> I've traveled to the Far East to observe their
>>> cultures. My point is that Obama, although formally well
>>> educated and a brilliant orator, is a
>>> neophyte when it comes to understanding the world and
>>> is uniquely
>>> unqualified for the job as President of these great
>>> United States. His
>>> knowledge of economics is nil and his tax proposals
>>> absurd and
>>> life-threatening to the U.S. not only in economic
>>> terms but in
>>> preserving our national security as well. I don't
>>> want a 'citizen of the world' to be President, I
>>> want a citizen of the good old USA to be President.
>>> Screw the rest of the world as they have well and
>>> truly screwed us. The time has come for us to awaken and
>>> start looking after ourselves. Now THAT would be CHANGE if
>>> that's what you're looking for.
>>>
>>> While McCain has abstained from playing 'the
>>> race-card', Obama is
>>> playing it to the hilt even though he's
>>> technically not an African-American.
>>> To qualify for this distinction you must be at least
>>> one-sixth black.
>>> Obama is only one-eighth. His father would be, as he
>>> was one-sixth. No,
>>> Obama is more Muslim than black yet he trades on his
>>> blackness.
>>>
>>> The larger question I have about him is that we
>>> really don't know much
>>> about him other than what HE tells us, what we read
>>> on blogs and from
>>> some serious non-partisan investigators whose factual
>>> reports are,
>>> unfortunately, generally ignored and which receive
>>> precious little
>>> media exposure.
>>>
>>> I, as a registered Independent, a military veteran
>>> and a patriot,
>>> beseech you to put aside party considerations and
>>> vote for the lesser of the two evils. Yes, I am NOT a McCain
>>> supporter, but he is, at least, not a
>>> flake, doesn't carry Muslim baggage and is a
>>> PROVEN hero and patriot
>>> WITH experience. It's not a party issue. It's
>>> all about electing the best
>>> we can trust with what we've got to work with.
>>> Mr. Obama is NOT that guy.
>>>
>>> Please, please rethink your voting position.
>>>
>>> Thanks for reading my innermost thoughts. I care
>>> about all of you, but
>>> I care more about our country. Please help me to do
>>> both.
