BUMMED OUT

This morning I went out to get the paper, and as I was coming back in, I stepped in a hole that I obviously did not know was in my yard. I fell flat on my something, I'm not real sure what, cause I was too busy thinking,"I hope no one sees me laying flat out in my front yard in my penguin pajamas...with bed head!" I got up as quickly as I could and hurried in before I was discovered and turned in for indecent exposure. I didn't think I was hurt, but I sat down to regain my cool, since I knew I looked like an absolute fool just a few moments before. Everything seemed to be working o.k.. I was fine, just shaken. Then Don came through the room and said, "We have an appt. at 10:00." I went to the bathroom to get ready, and that's when I REALLY got bummed out. One of my earrings was missing. One of my diamond earrings was missing. One of my FAVORITE diamond earrings was missing! I never take them off. And, I know I had them on earlier when I first got up, so it must have gotten knocked off when I so gracefully did a swan dive on the front lawn. I had to get ready for my appt though, so I could not look. But, when I got home, I started going through the grass with a vengeance. Where is my earring? Down on my hands and knees I was scratching through the grass all around this hidden hole. No earring. I widened my search...and called in reinforcements. Adam came and helped me look. So, we were both down on our hands and knees searching through the grass. Yes, several neighbors drove by...I just ignored them. We searched...no earring. I came inside and took all the sheets off the bed and covered the bedroom floor inch by inch. No earring. Then, Don called. "Find your earring?" "NO" "Find the little rake...I'm coming home to find it." I find the little rake...and wait. He comes home and I have to go back out to show him where the paper was and where I fell. But that's not enough. I have to lay back down in the yard so he can see EXACTLY where I landed. Now, friends, I do not know about you, but when I unexpectedly take a tumble...my first thought is 'am I hurt?'...my next thought is 'did anybody see me?'...I never once think about laying there and memorizing my position in relation to the house and the street so I will have that information for future reference. I just don't think that way. According to my DH, that's exactly what I should have been thinking. "How can you fall in the middle of the front yard and not know where you fell?" ANYWAY!!! By this time it had started raining, so we searched...in the front yard...in the rain...under a little mini umbrella...with the little rake....and me back in my penguin pajamas because I had all intentions of getting into the bed because by now my shoulder and hip are hurting. If I was a spectacle this morning...just imagine what we looked this afternoon! And, NO EARRING! Back inside, he comes and takes all the covers and sheets off the bed AGAIN, and moves all the furniture AGAIN. No earring. No earring. NO EARRING. He left and went back to work...and I am going to bed...at least I know now what position I was in when I hit the ground. Today has not been a good day to be me.

Wow! That is a bad day, am I glad I don't have diamond earrings! Because I fall all the time......or like today get rearended! My DH says wouldn't have happened if I had been home resting since I'm sick. AHHHHHH!!!!! You could still find your earring. It may just show up when least expected.

I HATE that you've lost that earring! I would be upset too! I lost a little ring YEARS ago that was my grandmother's that my mom gave me..and I LOVED the ring! I just took it off, put it in my coin purse, and I have no doubt that when I was digging through change, it dropped out...and someone else now has it! UGH! I haven't dared to tell my mom, but I am still just heartsick about it, so I know how you feel. Hopefully it will turn up soon.

On another note, I had a similar 'who'se looking' incident in my front yard a couple of summers ago. We had raked up pinestraw, put it in trash bags and were spreading mulch...my sister was loading the wheelbarrow, I was taking the wheelbarrow to my brother-in-law, and my brother-in-law was spreading it. We were all SO tired. Well, after I had dumped a wheelbarrow load of it toward the end, I accidently stepped back onto one of those big FULL plastic bags of pinestraw with my tennis shoes on...they just gripped with NO give, and I tumbled backwards, literally behind over head backwards, WITH the empty wheelbarrow! I immediately jumped up, like you described, to see who was looking...and no one was...or so I thought. Next thing I know, Grace was in the front yard turning backward flips because, as she told my brother in law, 'That thing Aunt Dianne just did looked fun!!!' Oh well.... :-)

I'm really, really sorry you lost that earring. But you're just too funny, Tonja, for me to stop smiling since I've read this post. I'll try to stop smiling now and be serious about this very serious matter. I'll pray that it still shows up.

Tonja, I'm so sorry you've had such a rough day! I'm glad you weren't hurt badly, and I would have felt the same way about wondering what the neighbors were thinking!

You might try looking in that area of your yard with a flashlight at night (kind of at an angle). Sometimes flashlights will make an earring sparkle so that you can see it in a way you couldn't see it in daylight.

I sure hope that it turns up for you!

Oh Girl...I'm just sick for you! Andrea's idea sounds like a good one. I guess you looked in your PJs and robe...does your PJ's have a pocket? Just a thought. Maybe someone you know has a metal detector? I sure hope and pray you find it. I'm glad you weren't hurt though. I bet you'll be sore tomorrow.

Hugs!
Kat
(ps...stop by for a visit...I'm passing on some awards to you)

I am sick about this with you! This just reminded me of the time I let my daughter who was about TEN at the time wear my diamond earrings. They were from my ex-husband so I didn't mind too much... but she lost one of them in LAKE MICHIGAN!

Anyway... I pray it you will find it!
Merry Christmas!
Love,
Angie xoxo

I'm late stopping by...

You have such a way with words that it literally paints a visual imagery and I could just see you taking the tumble. I admit that I had to giggle, until I read that you lost your diamond earring. How terrible! Andrea's idea sounds like a good one...the flashlight will make it sparkle. I will pray too, that it turns up somewhere.

Boy, I bet you're sore today. Usually it's worse the day after something like that happens.

One day I tripped on a root that was growing up out of the ground (my mom's old house) and thought I was fine, but about 5 or 6 hours later, my ankle was so swollen I couldn't walk.

Yikes! Hope you feel better soon!

What a bummer! I hate losing things, it is so frustrating. I was going to suggest a flashlight at night but I see Andrea already suggested it. It is worth a try. That or think of the last shirt you might have pulled over your head 'cause I have pulled earrings out doing that before also.
I hope tomorrow is a better day.
