I felt like I was right there with you, sneaking, plotting, sweating, swatting and mixing mud pies! Oh! How I remember those days, we didn't have a wisteria bush...but we did have a mimosa tree (it was fabulous for climbing, too) that was loaded with pink poofy flumes and seed pods...we all shared in making delicious creations with each plucked item!! It was in our front yard as well...WHY? did the back yard have to be so void of these culinary (albeit slightly earthy) wonders??? I was a little luckier than you and Joy...b/c our street wasn't busy...but I KNEW never to step off that curb and out into the street unless an adult was there to supervise...I think I may have "tested" the waters on that one a few times myself! What child doesn't want to just stretch the limits a "smidge" every now and then!

I tell you...you had me laughing at the wonderful story...but when I saw the picture of Joy..."whaaaaing"...and the line..."wet her pants"...WELL, I almost did!!

I also loved the picture of Joy filling her pool....even at a very young age...she knew how to relax, take her time and enjoy...after all she had the forthought to pull up a chair while filling that pool! Too cute! I also thought you were rather "dolled" up for that tonsilectomy...oh my...I remember the day I left home for that same procedure...I'll share that with you at a later date!

What great memories you girls have and I for one am LOVING reading all about life on Third Avenue...it was very similar to mine on King Street! Yes, I thought we were royalty, too!!!

Blessings...
TLivingTheLifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10471996311329520781noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6466957025274689346.post-19384240347532571762010-04-15T19:19:13.054-05:002010-04-15T19:19:13.054-05:00Buttering up your mama with compliments, so funny....Buttering up your mama with compliments, so funny. And then you get the other kids to go and get the wistera, very clever! Thank you for the ride down memory lane. This is a sweet memory to leave for future generations to read. I was with you all the way---the heat, the sun, the trepidation, the watchful eye and ear for getting caught.

And those wisteria blooms, hanging there like delicious grapes in their perfect swags---I long for wisteria and crepe myrtle, and I can smell it right now, sweet and musky in the heat of the day.

Do you know, I have probably shelled more Wisteria and cleome peas than real ones from the garden, and was just as persnickety about how mudpies looked as I am now with a cake.

This was like being back in my own childhood (but with a gaggle of boys wanting me to COOK THEM SOMETHING while they fought off dragons or wild men or lions. Good luck; I had my own sword).

I loved reading this and will look forward to more of your Third Avenue Adventures. You make it sound better than Neverland, and I declare, you're more fashionable going to the hospital than I've ever been for parties!!RachelDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11204947567574886675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6466957025274689346.post-5928018833561128692010-04-14T14:35:32.735-05:002010-04-14T14:35:32.735-05:00You should write a book and have it published!
